Short answers about the practice, the app, and the lifetime offer.
What is Before the Scroll?
Before the Scroll is a christian morning practice app that hard-blocks the apps that own your morning (Instagram, TikTok, X, YouTube, Reddit) until you have spent ten minutes with God. A short scripture-led flow: today’s verse, a brief reflection, a prayer. Then the gate releases and your day begins.
Who is Before the Scroll for?
Christians 18 to 40 who want their first conscious minutes to belong to God instead of the algorithm. People who already know morning scripture matters and need help making it inevitable. Not a productivity app, not a habit tracker. A morning practice that survives a smartphone.
How does the morning practice actually work?
You pick the apps that own your morning. When you tap one, Before the Scroll shows today’s verse, a short reflection, and a prayer prompt instead. There is no skip. After about five to ten minutes the gate releases and the apps unlock for the rest of the day. The next morning, the gate is back.
Can I skip the gate in an emergency?
No. The point of the practice is that there is no emergency override that defeats it. Phone calls, alarms, messages, maps, and anything you have not personally blocked stay reachable. Only the apps you chose to block stay closed until the gate releases.
What apps can I block?
Anything that owns your morning. We start with smart defaults (Instagram, TikTok, X, YouTube, Reddit) and you adjust. You can block any app installed on your phone.
Does it work on iOS and Android?
The app ships on both iOS and Android. The blocking mechanism uses each platform’s native screen-time and focus APIs, so it does not need a VPN, root access, or a workaround that can be deleted.
What does $29 lifetime include?
The first 500 seats lock $29 once for lifetime access. Every future version of Before the Scroll is included. After the first 500 seats the price moves to $79. No subscription, no recurring charge.
When does Before the Scroll launch?
Development starts the moment the waitlist hits 1,000 signups or the first 100 lifetime seats are claimed, whichever comes first. Both signals tell us the practice resonates and it is time to build. Everyone who pre-orders gets a launch email the day the app opens up.
Why a tree instead of a streak?
A streak shames you when you break it. A tree waits for you. Scripture says so. Your practice is painted as a watercolor tree that grows when you show up and rests when you do not. Miss a day and the tree is still there. Come back and it grows.
Is this a productivity app?
No. Productivity apps measure output. Before the Scroll measures presence. The aim is not to do more in the morning. The aim is to give the first ten minutes of your day to God before anything else gets a vote.
How is this different from a screen-time app?
Screen-time apps slow you down. They let you scroll a little less, with a delay, until you tap through the prompt. Before the Scroll is not a slowdown. It is a gate. The apps you blocked do not open at all until the practice is done.
Why was Before the Scroll built?
Because the first thing many of us reach for in the morning is the phone, not the Lord. The algorithm wakes up before we do. Before the Scroll is the small, hard-stop tool that lets you put scripture, reflection, and prayer before the scroll. Built by Marques Lilly Jr.
